ABOUT LIZZIE

Lizzie Rutberg (she/her) is a printmaker, painter, organizer, and trans woman living on stolen Massachusett and Pawtucket land in so-called Somerville, MA. She works primarily in linocut, which allows her to create mass-produced, original artwork accessible to the queer working class of the greater Boston area.

In Lizzie’s world, heartbreak and horror have always lived next door to the deepest love and grace. Queer people don’t always last. The forests burn, the boss abuses his power, the landlord knocks, the cops and the psych hospital loom never too far away. Through it all, we cook for each other, run errands, send money, blow up air mattresses, hold each other, listen, cry, find reasons to carry on. Lizzie’s animal prints embody the mischief, joy, and resilience of her loved ones, while her poignant cityscapes capture the color and light of a moment which has long since slipped away. Her work is haunted by the past but still hopefully searching for the better world to come.

Lizzie is also a proud member of Somerville for Palestine and encourages you to get involved as well.
